Our Story
Blue Ticking was founded in 2014 by Helen and John Shaw. It began with a search for something a little more individual for our own children’s rooms. Furniture with character and a sense of history, rather than mass produced pieces.
What started as a personal passion soon grew into a business, bringing together our shared love of interiors and vintage furniture with John’s skills in restoration and carpentry.
Put simply...
We’re obsessed with restoring, repurposing and making beautiful pieces that stand the test of time.
We don’t believe everything has to match and we aren’t slaves to interior trends. We love to mix the old with the new to help you create spaces that feel interesting, individual and practical.
Sourcing
Our goods are sourced from antique markets and dealers across Europe and beyond. With contacts built up over 12 years, we know exactly what we’re looking for and where to find it! Every piece is then restored or made by us in our West Sussex studio.
The name Blue Ticking comes from the traditional blue and white ticking fabric, once commonly used for mattress covers. We loved its simplicity and sense of heritage, as well as the opportunity to incorporate it into some of the pieces we restore and make. It felt like the perfect fit for what we do.
