Many of you will know that John is a skilled furniture restorer and transformer. What you might not know though, is he’s also a very creative carpenter and loves making bespoke furniture that have often been inspired by vintage pieces.
In this post we're going to share some of the goods John has made over the last few months. We love taking on commissions so if it’s something of interest please do head to our commissions page to provide more details. Each job is priced and then we will have further discussions along with drawings to ensure you're happy and we're both on the same page. Progress pictures are then shared through the process.
BOOKCASES
Whenever bookcases arrive at the studio they never stay for long! Everyone seems to need book storage but it can be quite specific depending on the space you have. This is where John comes into his own because he can make bookshelves to your exact requirements and they can be based on vintage ones we have sold if that's your preference. Below are a few examples of three hes made recently. They can be freestanding or attached to the wall and the shelves can be adjustable to work with different book sizes.

SHOE STORAGE
If you're a busy family then shoes are an issue! They're literally everywhere and we all want to find homes for them! We've had a few customers who have needed slightly different solutions to work in their homes. We had a couple of people who were after a taller unit that would sit on top of the skirting board to maximise space in a hallway. To add detail we included a tongue and groove effect and then they were painted in their chosen colour. The one you can see is Arsenic.
Another customer wanted storage that would sit along the floor for use as mini bench for her children. So shoes didn't easily fall out a front was added along with the tongue and groove detail again.

WORKING WITH BIRCH PLY
We love working with birch ply because of its atheistically pleasing and sustainable qualities. The layers of wood that you see make us so happy and it's just super smart and clean.
A Blue Ticking staple that we make a lot but in different sizes is our birch ply shoe storage bench. Great for sitting on and storing all the shoes! We have a standard size that you can buy online but we can change the length, height and even depth to suit your space. The two below are longer versions and went into busy family homes that needed extra storage.
If you like the sound of our birch ply storage bench do check it out online.

Johns also made different sized Edith's. These are our fabulous storage boxes on castors (named after our eldest daughter). We often add a pop of colour to the lid edges or we can upholster them. Over the last year we have made various sizes for customers. The Edith on the right was quite a bit longer so we added a baton in the middle to retain the strength. If you're keen to find out more about our standard Edith's or a bespoke size just head over to our storage on wheels page.

We were approached by a customer who had ordered one of our Edith's. They loved it so much they asked if John could make a bathroom cabinet in birch ply to sit under a sink. The brief was curved bottom edges and round holes for the door handles. Another great commission that we really enjoyed bringing to life.

IN THE PIPELINE
We've just accepted a very exciting commission with a sculptor. We're making four slightly modified Edith's to store her artwork in. We're going to use MDF instead of birch ply because they will be painted and cut out handles will be added on either end. We hope to share pictures and the process for this job so watch this space. Don't forget to head to our commissions page if you have an idea you'd like to discuss.
