We launched The Edith at the end of 2021 and were super excited about it, as were you! It was important to us that we had a product that was both practical and great looking. We also loved the fact it was made by us using birch ply, one of our favourite materials.
Whilst it was a huge hit with our customers, sadly in February 2022 we had to stop selling them because the cost of birch ply went through the roof, it just wasn't a viable option anymore. After a year of waiting and watching, the price is finally coming down, so much so we can bring The Edith back!
We thought it would be helpful to answer a few questions about The Edith in case you missed the launch the first time around.
How did the Edith come about?
We sold a product a few years ago that we reconfigured from old school desks. Essentially we took the lift up lid element of the desk and made it into a storage solution on castors. Being vintage it was a bit of a one off and we haven't been able to find similar desks since. They were super popular so it made sense to come up with our own based on this design. It felt right that it had a similar look to the vintage version but by making it ourselves it meant we never run out!

What different Edith options are there?
We have three different options available currently, plain, customised (coloured trim) and a cushioned Edith that we upholster in our classic ticking fabric.

What's great about The Edith?
Everything! We love the fact they provide much needed storage, can be used as a mini bench and that you can customise them by adding a coloured trim. The castors also mean they can be moved easily which is ideal for the little people in your life. Oh and they are easy on the eye which is super important to us!
What can you use them for?
Whatever you want essentially. Toys is an obvious choice, (our eldest houses her Sylvanian's in hers) books, craft items or anything else you fancy! The great thing is they also double up as a mini bench which make them even more versatile.

Why is it called The Edith?
It's named after our Eldest daughter who is a real book lover and because this is one of The Edith's main uses it felt like the obvious choice. Blue Ticking is a family business and so it's great to be able to give a nod to them in our products. Both children now have something named after them which makes me and them super happy!

Do you make them yourself?
Yes, they are made by John in our West Sussex workshop. Each one is cut, built and customised by us and we are very proud of that fact!

Why birch ply?
A couple of reasons; we love the look of birch ply. It's simple, very tactile and we love the visible layers of wood. It's also a more sustainable product which is important to us.

Has the price gone up at all since the first launch?
Due to the cost of the raw materials going up we have had to increase the price a little on each Edith. We think this is still a very fair reflection of the quality of the product and the craftsmanship that's gone into making each one in our West Sussex workshop.
Do you plan on expanding the range?
If the cost of birch can stay down and the demand is there we would love to expand the range and add different sized Edith's.
How Can I buy one?
They are live on our website right now. Just head to The Edith page to find out more.
