This month we are excited to shine a spotlight on one of our wonderfully loyal and supportive customers, Camilla Bowry. Camilla has been buying our furniture for many years, she has a great eye for things and it's always a pleasure to help fill her home with Blue Ticking goodies! We hope you enjoy reading the below as much as we did and seeing some of her purchases!

Can you remember what your first Blue Ticking purchase was?

Our first household Blue Ticking purchase was flip top desks and chairs for our children once they'd started school and started receiving homework. The desks are still in use and Helen painted the inside of the lids with black chalkboard paint which delighted the children when they first opened their desks.

Out of all the things you have bought from us, what is your favourite piece?

As a family, which collectively believes we can never have enough books . . . I'd have to say our favourite pieces are the bookshelves we've bought, including a wire locker which now serves as extra book storage in our son's room now that his book collection has outgrown his Blue Ticking wooden bookcase!

Which piece of furniture has had the most impact in your home and why?

From a practical point of view, a large wooden pigeon hole unit we bought to use as shoe storage in the entrance hall off our back door has made a huge difference to a previously littered hallway. I was forever requesting shoes be taken upstairs and now there's storage aplenty to just stash them away.

How did you find out about Blue Ticking?

I first heard about Blue Ticking from a friend who lived near Blue Ticking HQ.

What do you love most about the brand?

I think the reuse and re-home element of goods built to last is why I always return to Blue Ticking when sourcing items for our homes. We've moved house 7 times in 17 years and Blue Ticking items have been purchased every time we relocate.

You run an amazing charity called Sal's Shoes and have some of our furniture in your office and warehouse. What have they been used for?

Given that Sal's Shoes finds new feet for preloved children's shoes, so often outgrown before they're outworn, it seems apt that much of our warehouse is now a new home for preloved items of furniture. We have a table and set of matching chairs, various filing cabinets, two large wire reclaimed school storage units which now both store and display Sal's Shoes and a much-used locker unit with lots of room for our volunteers' bags and coats when they're in for shoe sorting sessions.

You bought a wonderful lab bench from us last year, has this proved useful whilst homeschooling?

The timing of the lab bench arrival couldn't have been better. Funnily enough, it was actually purchased just before we knew we were going into lockdown and the children would be virtual learning, it's been worth its weight in gold.

When buying furniture what's important to you?

As we're not nest builders and tend to move house relatively frequently compared to many, items built to last and withstand moving, and items that will fit into various environments and serve a multitude of purposes are probably at the forefront of our mind when furnishing our homes.

Why would you recommend Blue Ticking to others?

I call it my 'magic' shop because it so often has magic items that I never knew we needed until I see them online and I would absolutely recommend Blue Ticking.
