How do you create the perfect home schooling space in 2021?

With many of us managing the working from home and home schooling juggle you might feel that trying to stay organised is a pretty impossible task!

Up and down the country bedrooms, dining rooms and playrooms are being transformed into home schooling areas. Whilst we hope the end is in sight it's probably worth thinking about a more permanent set up, because children of all ages need a space to create and work even when back at school. With this in mind I wanted to share some top tips on how you can create the perfect home schooling space which works for everyone.

Get organised!

It's so important to feel organised when managing work and school life. We've all had those mad moments of not being able to find school work or the much loved pencil case. Therefore, if you can find a space to house these items it works really well.

One of my favourite storage solution pieces at the moment is our metal stackable trays. They can sit on top of a desk or side board and you could have one for each child so their work is easily managed and they know where to look for it. This is exactly what we have in our home and at the end of each school day, every piece of paper and folder gets put away.

If you are in need of something a little bigger then a basket may be just the thing. We have a couple of great options on offer including the aluminium crates with red stripe and the black metal baskets.

If you have the space then it might also be worth considering a bigger storage solution like our wooden cupboard with sliding doors. Ideal for pens and pencils, books and other craft and stationary items. The best bit is you can close the doors and not have to see what's inside!

Desk goals

Having a dedicated space away from the kitchen table is a great way to separate work from home life. In the first lockdown we decided to put a lab bench in our playroom. It's big enough for them to sit at together or if one of them needs to concentrate on something they can work here. The lab benches are a great height which means it's also ideal for me when I need to catch up on work in the evening. It's basically a great all rounder. We have this fantastic H framed one left, but also have some more coming in very soon that are a little taller. Do drop us an email if you would like more info.

Our two daughters also have a desk in their rooms which we use when we want to break up the monotony of home schooling or they fancy some creative time in their own rooms.

If you are searching for a desk with storage, then our French Mid Century Wooden Desk could be the one for you. I love how this desk is slightly bigger than a single desk but smaller than a full double. This could also make a great working from home desk as tall enough for us adults, win win!

Be Creative!

Whilst you want your homeschooling area to be functional and practical it will also be somewhere that the children have to sit for long periods of time which is why I also recommend adding a touch of creativity and personalty to your space.

I absolutely love the pegboards that we have in the girls rooms. They not only look great but they provide more storage opportunities. Pop above a desk and hang all your stationary bits and bobs you need so you have them within easy reach. We have a variety of colours to suit any room and they all come with pegs so it's ready to go!

I believe that designing/refreshing your homeschooling space is always fun. It gives children an opportunity to express their creativity and build a space they love. By being organised, creative and functional it can become a much loved area of the home for you all.
